Slow Down and Look

I am a full-time artist working at home in Stonehaven, N.E. Scotland: selling work as a painter, writer and maker both online and through local exhibitions.

I am trained but prefer to remain UNTAMED, Unframed, Unconstrained and Unconventional. Here you will see art in progress: you can buy my finished paintings etc through the gallery link on the right ~ Bern Ross

Old Kirk (Details)

I do love coming across old ruins, whilst out walking. There is something pure about them, so natural and full of history and colour despite their decay. It's the lack of modern, man-made stuff that makes them so appealing and I want to capture that character in my paintings.

Old Kirk stands on the cliff north of Stoney at the end of the footpath. Here are some 'details' from the main picture which is for sale on http://www.affordablebritishart.co.uk/gallery.php?artist=BernRoss&aid=371

I hope you like the way I see and interpret the extraordinary colours in the stones.

"Mother's Instinct"

This painting took months to complete. It looks better in 'real life' than on screen, which is unusual as far as paintings go. This is because the textures and detail of colour don't really show up on a file that's condensed for the screen. You can see more details about this picture on http://www.affordablebritishart.co.uk/ . I've written an article on there too which is published under 'A Day in the Life of an Artist'. It's a big site!

"Still Standing"

This picture is my interpretation of an old ruin that stands on the edge of a cliff quite near Stonehaven. It's a small picture and it's very popular: I'd love to paint a large version, which would be slightly different and more challenging.
